Side effects:
- When zoledronic acid injection is used to treat high blood levels of calcium caused by cancer it is usually given as a single dose. … When zoledronic acid injection is used to treat bone damage caused by multiple myeloma or cancer that has spread to the bones, it is usually given once every 3 to 4 weeks.
Dosage:
- IV- The recommended dose is 4mg/100m, over 15min; may be repeated after a week.
Warnings and Precautions:
- Caution should be exercised in patients with history of kidney disease, dehydration problem, asthma, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Drink adequate fluids to avoid dehydration.
- Do routine oral examination in patients at risk of osteonecrosis of the jaws.
- Monitor serum electrolytes, calcium, phosphate and magnesium.
- Withhold treatment if there is worsening of kidney function.
- It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
Side effects:
- Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: increased or severe bone/joint/muscle pain, new or unusual hip/thigh/groin pain, jaw/ear pain, eye/visionproblems, numbness/tingling, muscle spasms, irregular heartbeat.
